The Gilleard Lab recently had the pleasure of welcoming a distinguished group of visitors from Boehringer Ingelheim, one of the world’s leading animal health companies, alongside veterinary parasitologists representing veterinary schools across Canada and the United States.

The visit brought together experts from Boehringer Ingelheim’s Veterinary Technical Services and Global Research teams with academic researchers to explore our laboratory facilities, discuss ongoing research, and strengthen connections between academia and industry. The visitors toured our research laboratories, where they learned about the diverse projects underway in the Gilleard Lab, including advances in veterinary parasitology, molecular diagnostics, genomics, and parasite control.

A highlight of the visit was an informal question-and-answer session between graduate students, trainees, and the visiting experts. The discussion provided a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas on current research, career development, and the similarities and differences between careers in academia and the animal health industry. Students also gained first-hand insights into research translation, innovation, and the role of industry in developing solutions that improve animal health worldwide.

We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who participated and helped visit a success. We also appreciate the encouragement from the Boehringer Ingelheim team to continue building these professional connections, and we look forward to future collaborations that strengthen partnerships between academia and industry.
